Live in London

Postby mikeytull on Tue Oct 20, 2009 7:42 am

Picked this up at York on Sunday and watched it last night. This is great. The full gig in crisp, clear focus, great camera angles, superb sound and a fantastic set list. A new song, Rainstorm, gets an airing. Lovely to see Mark Birch, Ben Granfelt and Spam Spence.
The road movie is both interesting and entertaining, that's a nice bonus on the disc.
A great addition to the Ash collection.

Got mine Tuesday.

This is Wishbone at their Best absolutely fantastic. Wow filmed at the same venue as the 30th Year and this is a recording of a band really full of energy and enjoyment producing the best music around. I cant stop watching Rainstorm, never heard it before but this is becoming one of my most played tracks at the moment.

Received "Live In London" in the mail yesterday. I worked late last night so I didn't finish watching it until 2:30am, well worth it though. "Live In London" is easily the most professional concert documentary of WA that I have witnessed. The feel of the show between the stage and the audience was captured beyond any other video of the band. My personal favorite tune of the show is Cell of Fame, the song was in my head as soon as I awoke this morning. Spam was terrific and I enjoyed seeing Mark on stage again as well.
The only disappointement is that the DVD is a Region 0 and it will not play on my Pioneer Blu Ray player so I can not watch it on my biggest TV. However it does work on my upconvert player that's hooked up to my 37" LCD with my best sound system so I'm going to go now to watch it again but this time I'm going to TURN IT UP since I couldn't do that after midnight last night.

Got the DVD today, wanted to watch "just a few numbers" - and ended up watching all in one row eating nearly 1 lb. of noodles with cheese and tomato sauce being totally moved and impressed (not by the noodles) going to bed way too late also posting a forum entry with my eyes half shut :-)

To sum it up: I have always loved "Live In Hamburg" and didn't want anything to top that and I just can say they are both totally equal, different in many details, both offering wonderful hidden treasures along with the standards! GREAT! I LOVE IT! Wonderful performance by the band and the guesting ex-members.

Rainstorm is outstanding, Faith, Hope And Love totally touching, Phoenix even more intense than on "Hamburg" and in Blowin' Free" we got the loudest ever captured "1-2-3-4"!!!

Bob is ultra-tight as always and proves that his 12 so far years in the band are for a good reason, his vocals are quite high in the mix (thank you!) and the instruments crystal clear. Muddy is the perfect match for WA (ok, we all know that!), Joe adds a versatile backbone (and a great dominance on some tracks as well!). Well and as Ben says Andy has always been there - thank heavens!
I'm sure he has never sung better than on this DVD! He has gotten stronger and stronger as a vocalist from year to year while others a loosing the voice in his age *hint-hint*

I loved his words about the 40 yers and the changes in line-up - coulnd't have said it any better, really! I bow my head, gentlemen! Well done, it will be my deepest pleasure seing you again on tour in Germany 2010!

WA50 is next!

Oh yes, I forgot about that in my late-night-post: I really love Andy saying who opened up for WA. The Boss, KISS, Aerosmith... Well, it's the way of the world!

Ok...

So me and Lauren decided to watch this last saturday.

The set list cant really be faulted...Id maybe changed a few of the songs around but it really is just down to the individual...

The songs are well played through out. a real live feel and was just like the day.

the sound is fairly good although the Piezo guitar pickup is not really my cup of tea and makes alot of the songs sound a bit '80s' but... i guess they are staying true to the sound of the recording. I actually was really impressed with Bens playing and guitar tone. wow. gotta check him out more... i love that guys playing.

I think Andy may have been too loud in the mix ... maybe im wrong. Aside from Ben the highlights for me were Mark birch and engine over heat and pheonix...what great songs played really well... i will be sad the day these songs are dropped. Way of the world was good too but after hearing the live then again version its very similar. IMO

Blind eye was the best way to open on this ocassion. the video footage is GREAT. lovely angles and tonal quality.

The on the road bits are ok. The best bits are seeing sam (my bro) talk to andy about buying joes drum set and then hearing joe talk to him on the phone outside SBE!! Sams well chuffed.

It is nice to have a piece of history from one of my favourite bands and from one of the best weekends Lauren and i have spent together.

Two thumbs up

Watched the DVD on my Ipod Touch over 3 train journeys home. Its a great record of a wonderful night and I wouldn't change anything. Great to hear Muddy's playing in all its glory. Can't wait for the 50th anniversary!
